Houston church experiences growth surge amid emphasis on Gospel invitations, evangelism
By Erin Roach, posted November 4, 2024 in Evangelism
HOUSTON (BP) – People are responding to the Gospel in a way Bob Crites has not seen in the nearly 30 years he has been at Sagemont Church.
“It’s almost like a revival mentality,” said Crites, the church’s chairman of deacons. “We expect to see people saved every time we go to church.”
Sagemont is a historic congregation located in Houston, the fourth-largest city in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, that is also one of the nation’s most diverse metro areas. The church’s attendance has increased by about 800 people since March, and so far this year it has baptized more than 260 and tallied at least 450 professions of faith – not counting the 400 recorded on Easter Sunday alone.

“We’ve been very intentional at encouraging the church to pray for lost people by name and to learn how to share the Gospel,” said Levi Skipper, Sagemont’s senior pastor. He added that church leaders have sought to cultivate a welcoming culture so people will want to invite their friends, coworkers and neighbors to church.Click here to read more.

Illegal immigrant arrests under Trump drop 91% from Biden: ‘What a difference a year makes!’
By Anna Giaritelli – Washington Examiner
The number of illegal immigrants arrested at the nation’s borders has seen a staggering decrease over the past year as White House administrations transitioned from former President Joe Biden to President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks announced Friday morning that the number of apprehensions at the northern, southern, and coastal borders was down more than 90% this February compared to the exact period last year.
“What a difference a year makes! USBP apprehensions decreased by 91% from the same 7-day period last year,” Banks wrote in a post to X.
“This sharp decline reflects real progress in securing our borders and enforcing the law,” Banks wrote. “By stopping the flow at the border, we also streamline the removal of illegal entrants already in the country, reinforcing the integrity of our immigration system.”

Men Are Forbidden From Competing in Women’s Sports Thanks to Trump’s New Executive Order
By Madeline Leesman – TownHall.com
Feb. 5, 2025 marks the 39th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
Two years ago, I interviewed women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines on this holiday to discuss how the Biden administration was trying to destroy women’s sports by allowing so-called “transgenders” to compete against women. This was done so by rewriting the protections of Title IX, the federal civil rights legislation that prevents schools that receive federal funding to engage in sex discrimination.
Townhall covered how a shocking United Nations report titled “Violence against women and girls in sports” showed that female athletes have lost nearly 900 medals to so-called “transgender” athletes.
This year, with President Donald Trump in office, NGWSD looks a bit different. This afternoon, Trump signed an executive order prohibiting male athletes from competing in women’s sports. This includes prohibiting men who think they’re women from using women’s locker rooms and other facilities.

67 Dead in American Airlines Plane Crash: ‘May God Bless Their Souls’
Michael Foust – crosswalk.com
More than 60 passengers and crew members are reported dead after an American Airlines regional airplane collided with a military helicopter in Washington, D.C., Wednesday night, plunging both craft into the frigid Potomac River.
“We’re praying,” said U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran (Kan.).
The tragedy involved a regional plane, American Airlines Flight 5342, that was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members as it approached Reagan National Airport (DCA) for landing en route from Wichita, Kan. (ICT). Law enforcement said it collided with a Black Hawk helicopter carrying three passengers on a training mission. The plane was a Bombardier CRJ700. All 67 are dead.
President Trump on Thursday said everyone on board perished.
“There are no survivors,” Trump said. “This was a dark and excruciating night in our nation’s capital and our nation’s history.

Trump’s Department of Education Ends DEI Initiatives, ‘Biden’s Book Ban Hoax
By Katherine Hamilton – Breitbart News
President Donald Trump’s Department of Education (DoEd) began eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and squashed what it called “Biden’s Book Ban Hoax” in the first week of Trump’s second term.
In response to Trump’s executive order cracking down on DEI in the federal government, as well as guidance from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the department said it removed or archived hundreds of DEI guidance documents, reports, and training materials from its outward facing communication channels. The DoEd said it also put employees in charge of leading DEI initiatives on paid administrative leave.
“These actions are in line with President Trump’s ongoing commitment to end illegal discrimination and wasteful spending across the federal government. They are the first step in reorienting the agency toward prioritizing meaningful learning ahead of divisive ideology in our schools,” the department said in a press release.

Donald Trump, the showman, returns to the White House
By Naomi Lim – Washington Examiner
President Donald Trump’s return to the White House came with upending Inauguration Day traditions, signing orders before a roaring crowd, and having freewheeling banter with the press.
And that was just Day One.
After four years of a subdued term under President Joe Biden, 82, Trump has brought energy and unpredictability back to the Oval Office. The former reality TV star and businessman known for his branding, Trump, 78, jump-started his agenda with an eye for dramatics.
After declaring America’s “decline” to be over during his inaugural address in the Capitol Rotunda and delivering a lengthy bonus speech in Emancipation Hall before lunch, Trump appeared at a packed Capital One Arena to sign executive actions, where he delighted in throwing his Sharpies into the crowd.
